Famous scientist??????? pls help?

hii in science i need to find out the name of a scientist by reading an article on him with his name crossed out. can someone tell me who he is? here are some clues... born in paris on 18th march 1858 and died at sea on 30th september 1913, studied thermodynamics in munich and worked in a refrigeration plant in paris, around 1880 he conceived an idea for a new engine and in 1892 he obtained patent for it.
