What are the symptoms of a bad 4x4 actuator box...1999 chevy silverado 1500?

99 chevy silverado. when i crank my wheels one way or the other....usually only in reverse ...the truck will jerk slightly left to right. like something is letting loose. its a z71 4x4 1500. any ideas?
