Do people become less optimistic and harsher about God the older they get?

in general are the young and inexperienced more likely to believe in god than those with a greater breadth of life experience? not to imply the older faithful generation is inexperienced, just that experience can negatively impact one's overall belief in religious (and other) ideals.
