I'm looking for an effects pedal or whatever (novice guitarist) for my electric guitar?

I'm sporting a Gregg Bennett Malibu MB2. And I know a lot of songs from Interpol, Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, Queens of the Stone Age, White Stripes, but I want to expand what I can play and make it sound right. So I need something to help.
